Orile-Agege lawmaker distributes 100 cooking gas cylinders to residents

Mr Ganiyu Sunmonu, Majority Leader of the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Legislative House, on Thursday distributed 100 three-kilogramme cooking gas cylinders to residents of Ward F.

The empowerment programme was held during Ward F stakeholders’ meeting at Zion African Nursery and Primary School, Alaagba, with the theme: “Empowering the Grassroots Through Responsive Leadership”.

In his welcome address, Sunmonu said that the distribution of gas cylinders was part of efforts to ease the economic burden on households.

He thanked political leaders and residents for their continued support, as their cooperation had contributed to developmental efforts in the ward.

Sunmonu highlighted projects executed in the area to include road and drainage construction, educational support, facilitation of voter registration and other community development initiatives.

The lawmaker also urged residents to maintain a clean environment by avoiding indiscriminate refuse disposal.

“Keep our environment clean. Proper waste disposal protects our health and our community,” he said.

To improve learning, Sunmonu donated a prepaid electricity meter to Zion African Nursery and Primary School to enhance power supply to the school.

He assured residents that more empowerment and developmental programmes would be implemented to improve their welfare.

Speaking on behalf of the council chairman, the Vice Chairman, Mr Wale Fayemi, commended Sunmonu for the initiative, describing it as a demonstration of responsive and people-oriented leadership.

Fayemi urged residents to remain actively involved in governance by identifying community needs and engaging their elected representatives.

“With your cooperation, the council will continue to intervene promptly and deliver more dividends of democracy,” he said.

Mr Alaba Alashe, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Orile-Agege LCDA, also commended Sunmonu’s commitment to grassroots development.

“This is leadership with compassion. You are bringing government closer to the people through direct empowerment,” Alashe said.

Also speaking, ASP Julius Olalekun of the Elere Police Station sensitised residents on community policing, vigilance and the need to collaborate with security agencies to improve safety.

Traditional rulers, religious leaders, party members and residents attended the meeting.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Funke Ajoloko described the intervention as timely, and would ease some burden in most homes.

Another beneficiary, Mrs Folashade Omotola, expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for the support.

“It shows our leader cares about our welfare and daily struggles,” Omotola said.
