Over 40 Feared Dead In Sokoto Boat Mishap

No fewer than 40 residents of Gorau village in Goronyo local government area, Sokoto State have been feared dead from a boat mishap.
The incident according to locals has devasted the entire community, as search for more mising persons still ongoing as Wednesday evening.
According to one of the rescuers, Isah Ibrahim, those in the canoe were said to be over 70 children between the ages of 10 to 15 all heading towards their rice farms.

Confirming the incident, the head of Sokkto Operatio!, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA)Alhaji Tukur Abubakar said the incident was a very unfortunate one.
“It is true that the boat unfortunately capsized and there are reported fatalities. However, we cannot ascertain the actual number or casualties at the moment as one men are on their way for rescue.
“I am together with the officials of the Sokoto State, National Inland Waterways Authority and other emergency responders. We will give detailed update shortly”, Tukur assured.
