Senator Wamakko Sponsors Additional 60 Students To Study Abroad


The Senator representing, Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has again sponsored additional 60 students of Sokoto indigene to study various courses in the Maryam Abacha American University, Maradi, Republic of Niger.

Other students are to study at the Al-qalam University Katsina, katsina State. 

The benefiting students are to study Medicine, Law,  Information Communication Technology and other Social Sciences courses among others.

Speaking during the farewell ceremony held for the lucky benefiting students, a University Don,  Professor Aliyu Muhammad Bunza of the Nigerian Languages Department, Usman DanFodiyo University Sokoto described Senator Wamakko as a champion of education in the North-western part of the country.

Prof Bunzza who represented Senator Wamakko at the occasion, 

presented paper on, “The Importance of education in the Society”. 

While noting that Senator Wamakko’s generosity cut across region, religion and political boundaries, Prof Bunza, said the Senator is helping to build a betyer, healthy, hale and sane society with education.

“Giving knowledge in the society will certainly reduce a number of crimes and criminality, such as banditry, kidnapping and restiveness”.

A statement by Senator Wamakko’s Special Adviser on New Media, Bashar Abubakar quoted Prof Bunza as challenging other politicians seeking elective positions to emulate Senator Wamakko by sponsoring less privileged people before they will be voted into power.

Wamakko, who is seeking third term in the red chamber is the immediate past governor of Sokoto State, is the leader of APC in the State and the Senate Committee chairman on Defence as well as Deputy Chairman on Anti Corruption. 

The Senator who appealed for a democratically united Nigeria for the overall development of all, reaffirmed that our unity is our strength. 

Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi, (Iyan Sokoto) underscored the giant strides of Senator Wamakko in the areas of both infrastructure and human capital development.

Alhaji Aminu however urged other public office holders to emulate the simplicity of Senator Wamakko and also build humanity rather than empires for themselves. 

Reacting to the gesture, parents of the benefiting students thanked Senator Wamakko for giving their children such an opportunity.

“All we can say is that may Almighty God continue to bless Senator Wamakko in good health and long live. Some of us are very poor that we cannot even send our children to schools in Nigeria talk more of abroad. But thank God today, Senator Wamakko has given us hope of having well educated children”.
