Seplat Energy, NNPC begin eye care programme for A’Ibom residents
Seplat Energy and NNPC Limited on Tuesday, begun a one-week eye care outreach programme for Akwa Ibom residents.
Speaking at the event, Sen. Udoma Udoma, the Chairman, Seplat Energy, said that the gesture was a way of positively impacting the lives of host communities.
Udoma said that similar health programmes had been implemented in Edo, Delta and Imo.
He said that the programme addressed the immediate health need of the people, saying, “good vision supports learning, work, independence and dignity”
The company chairman said that Seplat was determined to contribute positively to the development of its host communities.
He said that the company’s relationship with its host communities was based on respect, transparency and consistent performance.
“In collaboration with our joint venture partner, NNPC Limited, we see social investment as part of responsible business.
“We are aware that doing business requires responsibility and commitment to social investment,” he said.
Udoma said that the company was committed to programmes that could respond to identified needs in collaboration with credible partners that could deliver lasting benefits.

In his speech, Gov. Umo Eno expressed gratitude to the management of Seplat Energy and NNPC Limited for implementing the programme.
Represented by his Deputy, Sen. Akon Eyakenyi, Eno said that the initiative would promote healthy lives and the well-being of the people.
The governor said that the eye care programme was in line with his administration’s ARISE Agenda.
He said that the programme was a timely lifeline for many individuals and families whose aspirations, lives and potentials had been affected by visual impairment.
Earlier, Mr Effiong Okon, the Chief Executive Officer, Seplat Energy, said that the programme would begin in Uyo before moving to Eket and Ibono Local Government Areas.
He said that free eye screening, treatment, reading glasses and sight-restoring surgeries would be carried out during the programme.
He further said that residents would be screened for other conditions that often went unnoticed in order to ensure early detection.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Rose Nkeruwem, a school teacher, thanked the management of Seplat Energy and NNPC Limited for the gesture.
