Sudan’s army has announced the recapture of the headquarters of the state broadcaster in Omdurman, a significant development in the 11-month civil war with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The RSF had seized control of the headquarters shortly after the outbreak of the conflict. The ongoing conflict in Sudan has forced eight million people to flee their homes, with warnings of worsening hunger.
Videos circulating on social media depict soldiers celebrating outside the state broadcaster in Omdurman, marking what the army termed a major victory.
Despite gaining control of the building last April, the RSF was unable to broadcast from it, as state television continued airing pro-army content from other locations across the country.
