By : Yau Birnin Kebbi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been commended for initiating and executing the ongoing Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway Project.

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, gave the commendation during an inspection visit to the project site at Janzomo village near Birnin Kebbi, where work is progressing.

Describing the Super Highway as President Tinubu’s “Legacy Project,” the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, emphasized the President’s commitment to completing the road, a significant portion of which traverses Kebbi State.

The Minister, accompanied by Governor Nasir Idris, Senator Atiku Bagudu, Minister of State for Works, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Works, Mr. Funsho Adebiyi, Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, and former Kebbi Governor, Sa’idu Dakingari, highlighted the project’s importance.

“Kebbi State has the longest stretch of the project, totaling 258 kilometers. President Tinubu is committed to completing this as his Legacy Project,” Umahi said.

He further noted, “The President has approved 30% contract fees. Tinubu has love for the people of Kebbi—this state is the heart of the North West. The project is moving smoothly. The contracting firm, HITECH, has the ability, capability, and modern equipment—unmatched in West Africa—to execute the entire 1,068-kilometer Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway.

“I also thank Governor Nasir Idris for his commitment to realizing the project. Kaura has love for President Tinubu, and work will be completed within the timeframe,” he assured.

Governor Nasir Idris expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for undertaking the project and other transformative development programs in Kebbi State.

“We remain committed to the President’s vision, and the people of Kebbi State fully support his administration beyond 2027,” the Governor said.

He pledged to create an enabling environment for the construction company to ensure the project’s timely completion.

Dr. Idris reaffirmed Kebbi State’s unwavering support for President Tinubu, stating, “By God’s grace, we are supporting Mr. President in 2027, and In Sha Allah, the people of Kebbi State will stand by him.”

He recalled a recent conversation with the President, during which Tinubu personally assured him that the project was a priority.

“The President told me, ‘I want you to believe that this contract will be completed according to specifications.’ His administration has done so much for us in Kebbi, things we have never witnessed before in the state’s history,” Idris added.

Senator Atiku Bagudu, the Minister for Budget and Economic Planning and former Governor of Kebbi, commended President Tinubu’s dedication to completing inherited projects.

“President Tinubu has vowed that no project will be abandoned, regardless of the challenges. He is focused on innovative funding sources rather than engaging in blame games,” Bagudu said.

He also praised Governor Nasir Idris for his rapid transformation of Kebbi State.

The Federal Comptroller of Works in Kebbi State confirmed that 35 kilometers of site clearance had been completed, and compensation payments would commence soon.
