Tinubu set to launch African Counter-Terrorism Summit in Abuja

In a move to address the pressing issue of terrorism plaguing the continent, President Bola Tinubu is slated to inaugurate the African Counter-terrorism Summit in Abuja. Scheduled from April 22 to April 23, the summit, organised by Nigeria with support from the United Nations Office of Counterterrorism (UNOCT), aims to tackle the evolving threat of terrorism in Africa.

The theme, ‘Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Institution Building to Address the Evolving Threat of Terrorism’, underscores the urgent need for collaborative efforts to combat terrorism effectively.

This summit serves as a crucial platform for fostering multilateral counter-terrorism cooperation and reshaping the international community’s response to terrorism in Africa.

The summit’s objectives include enhancing regional collaboration, bolstering the institutional capacity of member states, and facilitating the exchange of best practices to combat terrorism.

By bringing together heads of state and government, high-level officials, representatives of international organizations, and civil society groups, the summit seeks to forge a unified approach towards combating the multifaceted threat of terrorism on the continent.

With Ms. Amina Mohammed, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, in attendance, the summit is poised to drive discussions on strategic priorities and measures to address terrorism effectively. Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser, and Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, the Under-Secretary-General for Counterterrorism, UNOCT, are slated to deliver concluding remarks, marking a pivotal moment in Africa’s fight against terrorism.

As Africa unites to confront this common challenge, the African Counter-terrorism Summit represents a significant step towards fostering peace, stability, and security across the continent. Through collaborative efforts and African-led solutions, the summit aims to chart a course towards a safer and more prosperous future for all.
