Yobe FRSC urges passengers to speak up against reckless driving

The Yobe Command of the  Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has commenced the 2024 Ember Months sensitisation campaign, urging passengers to be more vigilant and speak up against reckless driving.

The State Sector Commander, Idris Danladi, during a press conference in Damaturu on Tuesday to kickstart the campaign, highlighted the alarming rate of road accidents during the ember months.

He noted that passengers were often the victims of reckless driving and should not be passive observers.

”We have observed that more passengers are killed in road traffic crashes than drivers.

”This is why we are urging passengers to take responsibility for their safety by speaking up against reckless driving and demanding adherence to traffic rules,” Danladi said.

He disclosed that the command had introduced a new strategy to engage passengers, including mega town hall meetings, motorcades, and advocacy campaigns at transit points and rest areas.

He said the aim was to empower passengers to recognise their rights and hold drivers accountable.

The sector commander called on motorists to prioritise road safety by adhering to traffic rules, maintaining their vehicles, and avoiding reckless driving.

He also urged relevant stakeholders to collaborate with the FRSC to create a safer road environment.

”By working together, we can reduce road accidents and make our roads safer for everyone,” he said.
