ZAMFARA ASSEMBLY DENIES SUSPENSION OF PLENARY
The Zamfara State House of Assembly has denied media reports that it suspended its plenary over kidnapping of Speaker’s father.
This is contained in a statement issued in Gusau by the Director General, Press Affairs and Public Relations of the house, Mustafa Jafaru-Kaura.
Parents of the assembly’s speaker, Alhaji Nasiru Magarya, including his biological father, Alhaji Mu’azu Magarya, step mother and four other relations were kidnapped over a month ago by bandits.
“The attention of the zamfara state House of Assembly has been drawn to stories published by some national newspapers today 24, August, 2021 that the house had suspended its plenaries until the speaker’s father and five others regained their freedom from the hands of their kidnappers.

“To put the records straight , the state house of assembly under the leadership of Speaker Nasiru Magarya has never deliberated on this issue or took any decision that has to do with the kidnap of the speaker’s father.
“The House rules regarding taking any decision on any issue or issues are clear, and at no time did the lawmakers met at the hallow chamber of the assembly and take this hasty decision as claimed by some sections of the media”, he said.
According to Jafaru-Kaura, the house sat on 23rd July, 2021 and resolved to have a break to allow members to go back to their respective constituencies to effectively monitor the ungoing revalidation of APC membership card exercise across the state which allow them to suspend plenaries ever before the adoption saga, but committee sittings of the house are ongoing right now.
He said that Section 101 of the 1999 Constitution as amended has spelt out in clear terms the roles of the state houses of assemblies
“The Zamfara state House of Assembly is not an exception to this provision, regular committee sittings and oversight functions are still going on in the House.
“The Six assembly expressed its total displeasure and disappointment with the rare display of unprofessionalism and unethical conduct of some media houses in the country that always go to the press without substantiating their facts”, he stated .
The House also urged the general public to disregard such stories as untrue, bare, baseless and unfounded that did not reflect the true situation of things at the state legislative arm of government.
