Zamfara assembly issues 24- hour ultimatum to Dep. Gov. to appear before it

Houses of Assembly on Tuesday extended its invitation for the Deputy Gov of the state, Mr Mahadi Aliyu-Gusau by 24 hours, to appear before it to answer questions on alleged official misconduct.

The assembly had on July 14, directed the deputy governor to appear before it today, Tuesday July 27, to explain why he conducted political rally when the state was mourning the killing of 56 innocent persons in Maradun Local government area of the state by bandits.
The assembly issued the ultimatum following a unanimous decision by the lawmakers during plenary.

In a motion moved by the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Mr Nasiru Bello -Lawal (APC, Bungudu West) under matters of urgent public importance, the lawmaker expressed worry that the deputy governor refused to comply with the directives of the house.
Bello-Lawal noted that the house had earlier resolved to invite the deputy governor to appear in person, while the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Hussaini Rabi’u was to furnish the house with all relevant documents on why his command allowed such political rally by at that unfortunate period when the state was mourning the death of over 56 innocent people at Faru community in Maradun local government area of the state.

“Since the deputy governor was fully and officially communicated with the house summon to appear today and no response was heard either from him or his office, there is need for the house to still respect his office and give him additional time for him to respond,” Bello Lawal added.

After deliberations, members of the house unanimously agreed through voice votes to give the deputy governor an additional 24 hours ultimatum.

The Speaker of the house, Alhaji Nasiru Magarya directed the deputy governor to appear before the house on or before Thursday July 29.
