ZAMFARA ASSEMBLY PASSES SOCIAL PROTECTION, DISABILITY BILLS

The Zamfara House of Assembly has on passed State Social Protection and Disability bills and called for establishment of State Disability Board.

This is contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Director General, Press Affairs and Public Relations to the house, Malam Nasiru Biyabiki.

Biyabiki said that the two bills were passed by the house during the assemblys’ plenary session after receiving a reports on the two bills.

Presenting the report before the house, the Chairman of the assembly’s committee on Women, Children and Social Welfare and Chairman Parliamentary Forum of the house, Kabiru Magaji and Nasir Bello-Lawal who were assigned to scrutinize the bills called on the lawmakers to deliberate and agree with the report so that the bills could be passed.

“In their separate contributions, the lawmakers said the two bills, if passed into law, would complement the government efforts in addressing the issues related to disability and vulnerability.

“After deliberations by the members of the house, Nasiru Magarya directed the clerk of the house to read the two bills for the 3rd time.

“With this welcome development, now the Zamfara State Social Protection and Disability Bills have been passed by the state house assembly and clean copies of the laws would be transmitted to Gov Bello Matawalle for his assent”, Biyabiki said.

The Speaker, commended the two committees for going through the rigorous process leading to the passage of the bills.

He called for the establishment of State Disability Board.

“We also appreciate the kind support to our partners, Save the Children International and all the stakeholders who jointly participated in the process to where we are today regarding the passage of these bills.

“We are ready to continue to partner with all development partners for the development of the state’, Biyabiki e quated Speaker as saying.

The Speaker, who is the Chairman Selection Committee of the house announced minor changes in the leadership of the standing committees of the house.

According to the Speaker, Ibrahim  Tukur  (APC Bakura Constantly), who formally chaired the house committee on Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, will now be the chairman House Committee on Rural Development and Cooperatives while Ibrahim Muhammad (APC Bukkuyum North) will oversee the house committee on Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

In the same sitting the house has screened four government nominees sent to it by Gov Bello Matawalle to serve as his Special Advisers.

Those screened and confirmed were Musa Ibrahim, Nafi’u Rabi’u, Mukhtar S-Kaura and Kamilu Kasuwar-Daji”, Biyabiki explained.
