ZAMFARA CIRCLE TASKS PUBLIC OFFICE HOLDERS ON GOOD GOVERNANCE
The popular Zamfara based NGO, (ZAMFARA CIRCLE COMMUNITY INITIATIVE) has called on public office holders in the state to promote good governance and quality service delivery at all levels.
The NGO, known for promoting good governance, made the call at a town hall it organised for political office holders in the state in Gusau over the weekend.
The meeting, Chaired by Prof. Muazu Abubakar, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Gusau, had the theme, “A New Zamfara: Toward Achieving a People’s Centred Public Service”
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman of the organisation, Dr Al’amin Muhammad Awwal said that the meeting aimed at developing workable solutions toward addressing the current challenges hindering sustainable development and good governance in the state.
Awwal explained that his organisation also provide humanitarian support and legal services toward ensuring accountability, transparency and effective service delivery to the people.
”We are here to remind our public office holders in Zamfara on the need to provide good governance and equal opportunities for the citizens,”he said
Speaking at the event, Governor of the state, Dauda Lawal, described the meeting as ”timely”, adding that it was in line with the policies and programmes of his administration.
Lawal, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Nakwada, promised to run a people’s centered administration.
“We are committed in providing the needs of the citizens; our administration since its inception has been working to initiate policies and programmes to revive all ailing sectors in the state.
“We will give priority to education, health, water and sanitation, infrastructure, among others.
“We are committed to improving the wellbeing of the citizens through judicious utilisation of scarce resources
”The state will start witnessing significant changes soon,” the governor said.

In paper titled “Citizens Participation for Inclusive Development”, Prof. Muhammad Tukur Usman, Director, Center for Peace Studies, Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, decried that the current challenges had devastating effect on its socio-economic life of the state
“Reports by both local and international organisations indicates a steady increase on the number of out of school children in Zamfara
“Poverty rate in the state according to the United Nations Development Progarmme (UNDP) and National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has increased from 73 per cent in 2019 to 78 per cent in 2022”, he said.
The meeting had participants from politicians, civil servants, traditional rulers and religious leaders as participants.
Other participants include community leaders, members of the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), the media, among other stakeholders.
