Presidency, RHI empower 500 Anambra women with business equipment

The Office of the Senior Special Asst. to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), has empowered 500 women in Anambra.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the beneficiaries received equipment to start or expand their businesses.

The empowerment programme, held in Awka on Wednesday, formed part of the nationwide rollout of the SDGs/RHI Women Empowerment Programme across the five South-East states.

The beneficiaries received items including deep-chest freezers, maxi gas cookers with ovens, generating sets and industrial grinding machines, among others.

Speaking, the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, said the initiative was designed to promote economic inclusion and empower women to become financially independent.

Tinubu, whose message was delivered by the Wife of Anambra Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, said the programme aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

She said the agenda prioritised inclusive economic growth and sustainable development.

“Women’s economic empowerment will also contribute to the achievement of the SDGs particularly goal-5 on gender equality and empowerment of women and girls.

“It will also help achieve SDG-8 on decent work and economic growth.

“The equipment provided will enable women to establish new businesses or strengthen their existing enterprises, improve their livelihoods and achieve greater economic independence,” she said.

The first lady appreciated Gov. Chukwuma Soludo and his wife for supporting the implementation of RHI programmes in the state.

Earlier, Senior Special Asst. to the president on SDGs Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire said the beneficiaries were selected from vulnerable groups.

According to her, the groups include wives of fallen heroes, widows, indigent women and other vulnerable women.

She said the beneficiaries had demonstrated the determination to work and prosper, but needed the right opportunities and productive assets to improve their livelihoods.

‘’This empowerment is not merely about distributing equipment, but providing productive assets capable of unlocking potentials, fostering economic independence and creating opportunities for women to thrive,” she said.

Also speaking, the Secretary to the Anambra Government, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake, commended the partnership between the Federal and Anambra governments.

Nnake urged the beneficiaries to put the equipment to productive use.

Mrs Grace Ezekwe, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the first lady for the intervention.

She said the equipment would help them strengthen their businesses and become more economically self-reliant.
