Zamfara Government. lauds FCDO over development programmes

The Zamfara State Government has commended Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) for sponsoring various development programmes in the state.
The Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibo made the commendation in Kano on Friday while closing the four-day Workshop on drafting the Social Protection Law of the state organised by the Save the Children International (SCI).

The law drafting is one of the FCDO funded project implemented by the SCI through the Child Grant Development Programme (CDGP) in strengthening social protection systems in the state.

Jibo represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Gayari described the process of drafting the bill as a good step to promote social protection in the state.

“This bill if successfully passed by the state house of assembly and assented by Gov. Matawalle help in reducing the poverty and unemployment among people of the state especially those below poverty line”, the Commissioner said.

He said the state government is highly acknowledged and impressed with the various programmes for the development of the state by the FCDO through the SCI especially in the areas of capacity building.

“I am giving you assurance that the kind support you have been given would not go invain”,

He assured continued support and cooperation from the state government not only to SCI but all development partners working in the state.

The Deputy Majority Leader of the state house of assembly, Nasiru Lawal assured the Sixth assembly’s commitments for the successful passage of the bill.

Lawal said the Law if succeeded and implemented would help in coordinating various social protection activities by various Ministries, Department and Agencies in the state.

Earlier, the Senior Social Protection Specialist of the SCI, Mrs Sheila Nkunika commended the stakeholders who participated in the workshop.

“We are happy with the contributions of all the participants.

“We appreciate the full participation of Zamfara government’s officials, lawmakers and other relevant stakeholders like Unicef in this exercise”, Nkunika said.

She assured SCI readiness to continue partnering with the state on child development and social protection.

The Chairman of Zamfara Social Protection Platform (ZSPP) assured continued support of the CSOs and Media to the social protection activities in the state.
