UNICEF applauds Zamfara Govt. for developing Social Protection Bill

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) on Friday commended Zamfara Government for development of Social Protection Bill.

Mr Isah Ibrahim, UNICEF Social Policy Specialist, Sokoto Field Office, gave the commendation on Friday in Kano, while speaking to journalists after a four-day meeting on drafting the state social protection bill.
The event was organised by Save the Children International (SCI), a Non Governmental Organisations.

The meeting is part of the activities of Child Grant Development Children (CDGP) project funded by Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) in strengthening social system in the state.

Ibrahim said the meeting would provide opportunity for the parliamentary forum of the state House of Assembly and statekeholders in promoting social protection activities.

“The bill if finally validated and presented will be unique among the existing social protection bills and laws made by other states of the federation.
“The legislation of the social protection policy will significantly contribute in increasing access of  vulnerable group to social services.

It will also address poverty among those below poverty line”, Ibrahim said.

He said that the legal framework if passed and assented by the government would be very crucial for social protection systems and strengthen institutionalization of social people.

 “My organisation is keen in the realisation of social protection law which will help in achieving children’s rights and poverty reduction”, Ibrahim said.

He expressed appreciation for  the determination of the House of Assembly toward fast-tracking social.
