Drug Traffickers, Using Fake Presidential Plates, Receive 70-Year Sentences
Two drug traffickers who attempted to smuggle over 500kg of cannabis into Adamawa State using vehicles with forged presidential number plates have been sentenced to a combined 70 years in prison.
Shuaibu Nuhu Isa (55), known as “Don,” and Zidon Zurga (50), were apprehended on November 25, 2024, by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the military near the Numan Bridge.
They were transporting 626 blocks of cannabis, weighing 500.8kg, from Ondo State to Mubi, concealed in a Toyota Hilux and a Prado SUV bearing counterfeit presidential plates.

The Federal High Court in Yola, under Justice Bala Usman, found them guilty and sentenced each to 35 years imprisonment on February 7, 2025. The court also ordered the forfeiture of the vehicles used in the crime.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri praised the NDLEA and security forces for their successful operation, reiterating his administration’s zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. He urged those struggling with addiction to seek rehabilitation and contribute positively to society.
The severe sentences send a strong message: drug traffickers, regardless of their attempts at deception, will face the full force of the law in Adamawa State.
