Adamawa, AGILE empower 24,000 girls through education support
The Adamawa Government, in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), has empowered 24,000 girls with N40,000 each to support their education.
Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri disclosed this on Saturday during the unveiling of the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) disbursement programme in Fufore Local Government Area.
Fintiri said the initiative was designed to boost access to education and expand economic opportunities for the girl-child across the state.
According to him, beneficiaries will receive N40,000 in the first term, while N10,000 each will be disbursed in the second and third terms.
He said the support is conditional on beneficiaries attaining at least 75 per cent school attendance.
The governor said the state government had laid a solid educational foundation by consistently paying WAEC and NECO examination fees for students.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting girls to achieve their academic and professional aspirations, including careers in medicine, engineering and other fields.
Fintiri added that the programme also targets girls who dropped out of school, married girls and those with children.
He encouraged them to re-enrol, complete secondary education and proceed to tertiary institutions.
The governor also inaugurated several projects in Fufore LGA, including the Fresh Air Gate, Legislative Block, PDP Secretariat, Cottage Hospital and Government Lodge.
He said the projects were aimed at improving governance, healthcare delivery and infrastructure to enhance community welfare.
Also speaking, the Chairperson of Fufore LGA, Mrs Peace Audu, commended the governor for what she described as people-oriented leadership.
