By Hannatu Lot

A 62-year-old businessman, Nwabueze Nicholas Izueke, was apprehended at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on Saturday, January 31, 2026, attempting to travel to China with 95 wraps of cocaine concealed in his stomach.

The Lagos-based dealer, who claims to operate in the clothing and auto spare parts business, was intercepted during the screening of passengers for Ethiopian Airlines flight ET940 to China via Addis Ababa.

Following a positive scan for ingested drugs, Izueke was placed under observation, during which he excreted a total of 1.589 kilograms of cocaine across seven excretions.

He stated his motive for engaging in the illicit trade was to finance the construction of his country home in Enugu state.

In a series of nationwide operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) also intercepted significant drug quantities.

In Abuja, operatives foiled an attempt to smuggle methamphetamine into the Federal Capital Territory, leading to the arrest of Ebube Okeke and three others. Meanwhile, in Taraba state, 1.8 kilograms of methamphetamine were discovered hidden in yogurt packs.

Further operations in Oyo state resulted in the seizure of 149.6 kilograms of skunk and the arrest of a Benin Republic national.

In Ibadan, NDLEA busted a clandestine “Colorado” synthetic cannabis production facility, arresting a kingpin and his accomplice along with precursor chemicals and cash.

Other seizures across the country include substantial amounts of tramadol concealed in a fuel tanker in Kwara state, skunk in Imo and Ondo states, and cocaine from a suspect arriving from Cote D’Ivoire in Lagos.

The agency also recovered Canadian Loud and Colorado from a suspect in Lagos and various illicit drugs from a dealer in Enugu.

These operations are part of the NDLEA’s ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.
