A raid on a notorious drug den on Bonny Island by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has resulted in the arrest of six suspects and the seizure of a significant quantity of illicit substances.

However, the operation was marred by tragedy as a dedicated NDLEA officer, Chief Narcotic Agent Sadiq Bako Mujahid, lost his life after sustaining fatal injuries during a violent confrontation.
The raid, which targeted the Ama Hausa area, a known hub for criminal activities, on Friday, February 6, 2026, saw operatives apprehend Genesis George Benson, the alleged gang leader, along with five other suspects identified as ThankGod Okon, Shamsudden Isah, Muhammed Musa, Adamu Muhammed, and Muhammed Yusuf.
A substantial cache of drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, skunk, and tramadol, was recovered.
The operation turned violent when Benson reportedly mobilized armed hoodlums to attack the NDLEA operatives in an attempt to evade arrest. In the ensuing chaos, Chief Narcotic Agent Mujahid sustained severe head injuries.
Despite immediate medical attention at the Bonny Island General Hospital, he tragically succumbed to his wounds.

NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised the bravery of his officers for their resilience in the face of the brutal attack.
Mourning the loss of Mujahid, Marwa described him as a courageous officer who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“We salute the gallantry of our men who refused to be intimidated by these criminal elements. Their sacrifice will not be in vain,” Marwa stated, vowing that attacks on NDLEA officers would have severe consequences and that the agency remains undeterred in its mission to eliminate illicit drugs from Nigeria.
