Bayelsa deputy governor hails smooth conduct of APC presidential primaries

The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Peter Akpe, hails the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries in the state, describing the exercise as orderly, transparent, and reflective of growing democratic maturity within the party.

Akpe spoke shortly after casting his vote in his hometown of Ebedebiri in Sagbama Local Government Area on Saturday. He expressed satisfaction with the turnout of party members and the calm atmosphere that characterised the exercise across various polling centres in the state.

According to him, the successful conduct of the primaries demonstrates the commitment of APC members to internal democracy and party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The process has been peaceful and credible. Party members came out in large numbers to participate, and this shows confidence in the leadership of the party and the democratic process,” Akpe said.

Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that APC members in Bayelsa joined party faithful nationwide in affirming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the party’s candidate for the 2027 presidential election through the direct primary option.

The affirmation exercise follows months of consultations among APC stakeholders and leaders across the country. Party officials said the direct primary method was adopted to encourage wider participation of members and strengthen grassroots involvement in the party’s decision-making process.

Observers at the venue noted that security personnel maintained a visible but non-intrusive presence, while electoral officials ensured that accreditation and voting procedures were conducted smoothly.

The event attracted several APC stakeholders and party chieftains, including Dr. Embelakpo Apere, Mr. Sinkumo Ekisah, and Mrs. Charity Kent, who served as the Ward Returning Officer.

Other prominent figures present included Patricia Ibiegi, High Chief Ebizimor Anthony Welson, Owupele Jeremiah Esq., and the party agent, Chief Akposeye Alfred Ozigbo.

Also in attendance was the APC Vice Chairman for Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Akwakwa B. Akwakwa, alongside youth leaders, women groups, and supporters who gathered to witness the exercise.

Political analysts say the peaceful conduct of the primaries in Bayelsa may strengthen the APC’s preparations for future elections in the South-South region, where the party has been working to expand its influence.
