Children’s Parliament Wants Child Protection Law Domesticated In Zamfara
The Zamfara State Children’s Parliament has called for the domestication of Child Protection law by the state government.
The Speaker of the Parliament, Saratu Ahmad, made call during an advocacy visit by members of the parliament to the Commissioner of Justice, Alhaji Nura Zarumi, in his office on Tuesday in Gusua.
The VMTNews reports that Save the Children International (SCI), an NGO, is suponsoring the Children Parliament in state.
“We are here to advocate for speedy presentation of the child protection drafted bill to the state house of assembly.
“The law for the protection children in the state is necessary, considering the increase of sexual assult and Gender-Baaes Violence (GBV), as well as other issues affecting children in the state.
“We are appealing for quick intervention of this ministry to ensure that the bill is presented to the state house of assembly”, Ahmad said.

In his response, Zarumi said he was happy that state have Children’s parliament and also encouraged young children to join as members.
“I am happy to see our children to be exposed to educative issues for the development of our dear state”, Zarumi said.
He thanked the SCI and State Assembly for their efforts to encourage children to participate in legislative activities.
He assured speedy presentation of the bill to the state house of assembly.
Zarumi, who noted that the bill had already been drafted by the Ministry and other stakeholders, said the bill is presently before the State’s Executive Council for deliberation.
“I am giving you assuarance that tmy office will do everything to ensure that the law is domesticated in the state”, the Commissioner said.
Earlier, Alhaji Yususf Sabo, the Director of Legislative Matters, State House of Assembly, said that the members were ready to support the children’s parliament.
Sabo, who is the state’s consultant on children’s parliament , said that the state assembly had been working with all stakeholders to ensure children were trained for future development of the state.
