COAS Charges Commanding Officers To Uphold Discipline, High Standards

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS ), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja has charged Commanding officers of the Nigerian Army to be disciplined and ensure that the traditions, customs and ethics of the military are continuously upheld.
The Army Chief spoke in Sokoto where he declared open the 1st Commanding Officers Workshop 2024 .
The event provides an opportunity for commanding officers to brainstorm and interact on how they could contribute meaningfully towards achieving an Equipped and Highly Motivated Nigerian Army.
He added that the workshop is aimed at enhancing the professional and operational competence of tactical commanders to effectively confront contemporary security challenges bedeviling our dear country.
Represented by the Chief of Training, Maj Gen Sani Gambo Muhammad, Lagbaja noted that the theme of the training ‘‘Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership within a Joint Environment”is apt and timely in view of the security challenges facing our country which require urgent and pragmatic solutions if they are to be eradicated or brought to the lowest ebb.
He maintained that It is on this premise that training, discipline and commitment to duty are all part of relevant solutions to the current drive of repositioning the Nigerian Army for operational proficiency.
“It is imperative to state that training or workshop of this kind is routinely organized for various cadres of officers in the Nigerian Army. Like every other Nigerian Army training activities, this workshop is designed to equip mid cadre commanders with requisite skills and competencies, so as to position them better for the onerous tasks that are associated with military duties especially now that Nigerian Army is at the vanguard of confronting increasingly complex operational exigencies that require robust contemporary command and leadership disposition.
He said the workshop will among other benefits avail this crop of participants who are mostly commanding officers, the opportunity to drive home my command philosophy which is “To Transform the Nigerian Army into a well-trained Equipped and Highly Motivated Force Towards Achieving our Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment” while they individually play their roles in the various theatres of operation across the country.
He encouraged the participants to seize the opportunity this workshop will afford, to broaden your professional knowledge, for enhanced administrative and operational competencies hence the responsibility of tackling the contemporary security challenges facing the country at tactical levels falls on their shoulders.

” It is a fact that the fight against kidnapping, smuggling, pipeline vandalism, banditry, terrorism, secessionist movements and other forms of insecurity confronting our dear country is multi-dimensional and complex. Therefore, the response of the NA to these security challenges has been robust, holistic and dynamic.
He enjoined Commanding Officers to continuously train their troops in all aspects of Military Operations Other than War, with special regards to the dictates of their operational environment.

In his welcome address the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Maj Gen Godwin Michael Mufkut thanked Chief of Army Staff for funding the workshop and give the division a hosting right.
