A family court convened at Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Tuesday decreed the detention of Musibau Lamidi, aged 50, following allegations of defiling his tenant’s six-year-old daughter.
Presided over by Magistrate Mrs S. A. Adesina, the court directed that the landlord be confined to the Agodi custodial facility pending guidance from the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions. Adesina refrained from entertaining the landlord’s plea, setting the case for mention on April 25.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) relayed that Musibau, hailing from Olode, Ibadan, faced a single-count charge of defilement.
Prior to this, Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji, the prosecutor, informed the court that on March 13, between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm, the defendant perpetrated the act against his tenant’s daughter.
Adedeji elucidated that Musibau had a dispute with the child’s mother, prompting her to seek alternative accommodation. Subsequently, when the mother embarked on a search for rental housing, the defendant committed the alleged offence against her daughter.
The prosecutor emphasised that the defendant’s actions violated Section 34 of the Oyo State Child Right’s Law of 2006.
