Delta govt empowers 6,000 Fadama farmers to boost food production
Delta government has empowered 6,020 Fadama farmers with cash grants and agricultural inputs to boost food production in the state.
Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, flagged off the disbursement tagged,”Disbursement of Inputs to beneficiaries Under Result Area 2 Fadama for Food Security” on Tuesday in Asaba.
The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the programme is being handled by Delta Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (D-CARES).
The items given to the farmers include fertilisers, poultry feeds, fish feeds, improved cassava stems, among others.
Oborevwori said the state had paid its counterpart fund for the African Union Development Agency (AUDA)/New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) to boost food security and create employment for the people.
He promised to give more support to encourage the farmers and charged the beneficiaries to deployed the items into productive use.
The governor noted that the empowerment was inline with his M.O.R.E. Agenda mantra, which was aimed at sustainable agricultural sector reforms.
He said that farmers in the state must receive necessary support to enable the state achieve the goal of food security and job creation.
He added that with this disbursement, many families would be better fed, earn more income and many households means of livelihood would have been improved.

“On Sept. 17, I was here to flagg-off the D-CARES Programme and today we are empowering more than 6,000 farmers with agricultural inputs to boost food production and ensure food security in the state.
“Our farmers must receive the necessary support to pursue their vital contributions to our economy. Agriculture remains a key pillar to our development strategy.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Chairman, D-CARES Planning Committee, Mr Sonny Ekedayen, said that the farmers were engaged in poultry, fisheries, cassava, maize, pepper and vegetables farming.
The commissioner urged all people of Delta to own a farm and engage in farming to boost food production.
Also, the State Coordinator, D-CARES, Dr Patience Ogbewe, thanked the Gov. Oborevwori for the support and urged the beneficiaries to effectively utilise the inputs.
Some of the beneficiaries; Mr Friday Modekebe, Paul Irene and Ifeoma Akunjere appreciated the governor and all the stakeholders for the empowerment and pledged to utilise the inputs effectively.
