INT’L WIDOWS DAY: AIDE À L’ AIDE FOUNDATION ORGANIZES SEMINAR FOR WIDOWS
As the world marks international widows Day 2021, the Zamfara State First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Bello Muhammad under her foundation “Aide à L’aide” organized a one day seminar for widows as an avenue to bond with them and identify challenges as well as solutions to their plights.
The theme for this year’s event is “Invisible Women, Invisible Problem” was the major highlights of the seminar which had panelists that extensively discussed on the topic, “Better lives for widows: challenges and Identifying key remedies to eliminate Vulnerability and dependence for widows.”
In a statement issued in Gusau on Saturday by the Press Secretary to the First Lady, Zainab Shu’aibu Abdullahi said that during event the First Lady distributed cash and clothing materials to the participants of the seminar.

Panelists at the event talked about the need for widows to find strength, in their times of distress and explore many financial opportunities.
They encouraged the widows to put in their best in raising up morally upright children that will place their families on a better social-economic pedestal.
In their goodwill messages at the event the Permanent Secretary Ministry for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Halima Muhammad Bungudu and PDP women leader, Hajiya Aisha Waziri expressed gratitude to the First Lady, for the socio economic support given to the widows which will go a long way in reducing shock and trauma.
While presenting empowerment package in cash and kind to the widows, the First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Matawalle said widows confront a variety of obstacles in the society.
“In the process of finding food for their children and themselves, they often face sexual violence and social stigmatization”
She added that it is necessary to come together and raise awareness on the plight of widows, as well as support them with anything that will better their lives.
Hajiya Aisha Matawalle also presented forms for Health insurance scheme to enable the widows and their children access free medical healthcare services.
“As we are all aware, the administration of my husband, Honourable Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle is up and doing with regards to the issue of women. We will continue to identify those who need support and extend the same to them insha Allah”, Hajiya Aisha Matawalle reiterated.
Many widows in the state has benefitted from the First Lady’s women empowerment scheme which has impacted on the lives of over 38,000 women.
The First Lady’s foundation with the mission to achieve sustainable breakthroughs for the poor and vulnerable, supported 65 widows in the program.
Many widows who spoke at the event, expressed their support and cooperation to the present administration in the state led by Governor Bello Matawalle considering the support and initiatives by the First Lady to them and women in general.
The event was attended by the women party officials, CSOs, NGOs and various widow groups that include people living with disability, Fulani Indigenous Group and Non Indigenes Widows ,amongst others.
