Kebbi: AIG seeks societal collaboration to tackle criminality

AIG, Ali Aji Janga, Assistant Inspector- General of Police in-charge of Zone 10, has appealed to the general public to extend maximum support and cooperation to security agencies to effectively tackle criminal activities in the Kebbi State.

He made the plea at a lecture he delivered to officers and men of Kebbi Police Command during a familiarisation visit to the command in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

The Zone 10 of the Nigerian Police Force comprises Sokoto as the zone headquarters, Kebbi and Zamfara States.

Janga said that the call became necessary in view of the fact that information from the general public was critical to the fight against criminal elements.

The AIG advised Nigerians to repent and seek divine intervention, saying, “We must go back to God Almighty, He is the only remedy to all challenges.

“As a people, we must look inward by taking a critical look of what we do that is bad, repent and seek God’s intervention in all the challenges. God in His infinite mercies will listen to us and deliver us of all problems.”

He charged police officers to cultivate informants, adding that each police officer must be an intelligence gathering personnel toward effective policing of the society.

Janga urged them to ensure civility to members of the society to pave way for free flow of information.

while cautioning officers against bribery and corruption, Janga also warned them against collaboration with criminals as any officer found wanting would face the wrap of the law.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, in Kebbi State, CP Musa Baba said the state had six Police Area Command with 38 Divisional Headquarters.

He explained that Kebbi State was strategically located in the North-West with 21 Local Government Areas with a police division in each LGA, while others had two police divisions due to their size of population.

Baba noted with satisfaction that if not because of banditry which engulfed parts of the country, police in Kebbi police had brought crime to the nearest minimum across the state.

The commissioner also appealed to civilian to keep faith in the police, while advising them not to relent in providing useful information to the security agencies to enable them discharge their duties of protecting lives and property diligently and efficiently.
