Lagos Govt. encourages social workers to remain steadfast in their commitment
The Lagos State Govt. through its Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr Moboaji Ogunlede, encourages social workers to remain steadfast in their services.
Ogunlede gave the advice in Lagos on Wednesday at the 2026 International Social Work Day Conference.
Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the conference was organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development in collaboration with Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW), Lagos.
The commissioner said that social workers role in rebranding trust, restoring dignity and strengthening communities could not be overstated.
According to him, the impact of their work extends far beyond individuals and shapes the future or society itself.
“As we mark the 2026 International Social Work Day, let us renew our collective resolve to build a society where compassion prevails over division, where hope triumphs over despair and where every individual is given the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances.

“The concept of Harambee, rooted in African communal values, reminds us that the strength of any society lies in its ability to stand together in difficult times.
“It calls for collaboration instead of division, compassion instead of indifference and service,” he said.
Speaking, the National President of NASoW, Alhaji Mashood Mustapha, said that the theme for 2026 was “Co-building Hope and Harmony: A Harambee Call to Unite a Divided Society”.
Mustapha said that Harambee was all about co-building hope and harmony in various societies noting that there was need for all to come together.
He said that no man was an island that there was need to interact and collaborate with one another.
He, however, said that he was looking forward to getting legal backing for social workers in Nigeria’s Constitution and the inauguration of social workers.
This is to ensure that quality service would be rendered to the populace especially the most vulnerable.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of awards and induction of 88 new members.
