Participants at Lake Chad’s meeting laud Yobe, Borno’s hospitality
Participants at the 5th Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum (LCBGF) in Maiduguri on Thursday lauded the hospitality of Yobe and Borno at the ongoing event.
A cross-section of the participants made their feelings known in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in the sidelines of the 5th LCBGF in Maiduguri.

They also expressed gratitude to Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe and Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno for making the event more interesting and memorable.
Participants across the basin and beyond expressed optimism that the discussions and collaborative efforts fostered by the forum would translate into tangible improvements in their lives.

Aishatou Zarma, a teacher from Republic of Niger, emphasised the importance of the gathering.
“This forum is a crucial step towards addressing the challenges we face in the Lake Chad Basin.
“I commend Yobe Governor and the Borno State government for bringing us together to discuss our shared concerns,” she said.
Ali Noura, a fisherman from Chad Republic highlighted the devastating impact of the shrinking lake on livelihoods.

“The shrinking of Lake Chad has severely impacted our livelihoods.

“I am hopeful that this forum will lead to concrete actions to revitalise the lake and improve the lives of those who depend on it,” he said.
Mr Ben Enjeck, a participants from Cameroon, stressed the urgent need to address climate change.
“Climate change is a major threat to our region. I am glad that the LCBGF is pprioritising discussions on climate resilience and sustainable development,” he said.

Fatima, a student from Maiduguri commended Yobe and Borno governors, saying the governors were symbol of modern roles models to the younger generation.
“As a young person, I am concerned about the future of the Lake Chad Basin.
“I believe that this forum will empower us to participate in finding solutions to the challenges facing our region,” she expressed.
