Police detain Yahaya Bello’s ADC, security details amidst dramatic escape saga

The Nigeria Police Force has detained a female police officer who served as the aide-de-camp (ADC) to former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, alongside other police officers attached to him.

They are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja. Their detention follows an order by the Inspector General of Police directing their immediate withdrawal from Bello’s security detail.

Sources within the police department, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the officers were apprehended on suspicion of aiding and abetting Bello’s escape from EFCC operatives who attempted to arrest him at his Abuja residence.

The drama unfolded after the EFCC declared Bello wanted for alleged money laundering amounting to over N80 billion.

Despite the EFCC’s efforts to arrest him, Bello failed to appear before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, prompting the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.

In a twist of events, Bello was allegedly aided in his escape by the incumbent Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, who arrived at Bello’s residence with heavy security and whisked him away in his official vehicle.

This maneuver led to criticism of the EFCC’s handling of the situation, with accusations of negligence and incompetence leveled against the agency.

Meanwhile, the EFCC has appealed an order that stopped Bello’s arrest and sought a stay of execution. The agency remains determined to bring Bello to justice, despite the challenges posed by his elusive tactics and the support he appears to enjoy from influential figures.
