Police vow to enforce third-party insurance policy in Adamawa 

The Adamawa Police command on Thursday vowed to  enforce the third-party motor vehicle insurance policy from February 1.

SP Suleiman Nguroje, the command’s spokesman, made this known in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Yola.

“The enforcement is in accordance with Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Sections 1, 2 and 3 of the Motor Vehicle (Third-Party Insurance) Act, which mandates all vehicle owners to obtain a minimum of Third-Party Insurance before operating on Nigerian roads.

“As part of our daily enforcement duties, the Command has observed with concern that less of vehicles in the state are insured, as reported by the Nigeria Insurance Associations.

“This poses a significant challenge to road safety and accident victim compensation,” the statement said.

It stated that the command had set-up an enforcement team comprises other security agencies and a mobile court to ensure full compliance.

“Some of its includes insures that victims of road accidents receive necessary compensation and provides coverage for injuries and damages sustained during travel.

“Strengthens the insurance industry and creates employment opportunities for Nigerian youths and to promotes responsible driving culture,” the statement  added.

It advised vehicle owners to immediately obtain valid Third-Party Insurance to avoid facing legal consequences.
