SCI trains Zamfara MDAs in Social Protection Implementation

The Save the Children International (SCI) an NGO funded by Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCTO) on Wednesday embarked on three day training for Ministries Department and Agencies in Zamfara State in Social Protection Implementation.

The state government had last year approved Social Protection Policy in the state.

Speaking while declaring the training open at City King Hotel Conference Hall Gusau, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad commended the SCI for organising the training for MDAs.

Muhammad noted that the training will improve the capacity building of civil servants and other stakeholders in the state towards effective implementation ofthe social protection activities in the state.

He said that the state government’s policy on social protection is going to ensure effective coordination of all social intervention programmes.

“Zamfara is investing massively in the social protection at different platforms”, he noted.

He reiterated the state government’s commitments in the state led Gov Bello Matawalle to ensure effective social protection implementation in the state.

In her remark, Hajiya Fatima Musa, the representative of State First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Bello Matawalle assured the commitments of the First Lady’s office towards proper social protection implementation in the state.

Hajiya Fatima Musa noted that the state government is carrying out several social protection activities and programmes through the office of the First Lady.

“One of the programme is Women Empowerment Scheme, under which we select 1800 women from across the 14 LGAs of the state to be given N20,000 each every month.

“The aim of the scheme is to empower women and reduce poverty level among the vulnerable women especially at grassroots.

“From the inception of Matawalle’s administration a total of 32,400 women have been supported with N20,000 each”, Hajiya Fatima Musa explained.

The State Programme Manager  SCI, Murtala Bello said the training is aimed at impacting knowledge on social protection to key implementors MDAs of in the state.

Bello said over 20 years, the state have been running various social protection programmes but due to proper coordination there are still high number of vulnerable groups and individuals in the state

“We consider to train the MDAs in this regard in order to integrate all social protection programmes in the state”, he added.

He called on the beneficiaries to listen various facilitators at the training with keen interest and contribute towards achieving the desired objectives of the training.

In his remark, the SCI Communication Officer, Mr Nura Dantawasa said the training is one of the FCDO funded project in strengthening social protection systems in the state.

Dantawasa said Five facilitators have been engaged from the Social Protection Training of Trainers (TOT) platform for various lectures and presentations during the three days training.

One of the facilitators of the training and Chairman of Zamfara Social Protection Platform (ZSPP), Malam Nasiru Biyabiki assured continued support from CSOs and Media organizations towards promoting social protection activities in the state.

He commended the SCI, FCDO for sponsoring zero drafting of Social Protection Bill for the state which held recently in Kano.

Other facilitators of the training include, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad, Director Budget of the Ministry and SOCU Coordinator in the state, Malam Hamza Salihu, Hajiya Rabi Ibrahim, a Member, Social Protection TOT Team and Murtala Yusuf from the Ministry for Local Government Affairs.
