Sokoto govt. partners school committees on female teachers recruitment, postings
Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has pledged continued partnership with School- Based Management Committees (SBMCs) on female teachers’ recruitment and postings.
Alhaji Kabiru Umar-Imam, the Acting Permanent Secretary in the ministry gave the assurance on Wednesday in Sokotao during a meeting with representatives of National Union of Teachers (NUT), Journalists and Non-Governmental Organisations.
The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the meeting is part of an educational project supported by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD).
The project is targeted at ensuring that all children; especially girls and marginalised children, have access to free, quality, publicly-funded and inclusive education, at all levels in the state.

Umar-Imam said state government invested heavily on education as the sector received the largest share in each year’s budget.
The Acting Permanent Secretary commended the NGOs and urged them to consider the possibility of translating SBMC documents into Hausa language.
Earlier, Olowu Claude, the representative of Rural Women and Youth Development (RUWOYD), said the project had been implemented in 15 schools across three Local Government Areas of Tambuwal, Binji, and Sokoto South.
Claude explained that RUWOYD partnered with NUT to advocate for better teaching and learning environment, as well as organised round-table discussions on sustainable financing for the teaching profession.
According to him, the outcome has led to numerous commitments made by government, which has contributed to enhancing welfare of teachers and a gradual improvement in the teaching and learning environment.
He said that the efforts were geared towards expanding inclusive educational infrastructure, teachers’ capacity, management coordination and parents/teacher’s relationship.
