Sokoto information commissioner urges journalists to prioritise public interest, peace
Alhaji Sambo Danchadi, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Information has urged journalists in the state to prioritise public interest and maintenance of peace within the society.
Danchadi spoke when the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council led by its Chairman, Dalhatu Abdullahi, paid him a courtesy visit on Friday in Sokoto.
The commissioner, who warmly welcomed the NUJ delegation, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for their continued support to the state.

“As working journalists in the state there is the need for each and every one of you to contribute further to the state’s progress.
“Today’s visit has marked the beginning of a strong relationship between the state government and the NUJ,” he said.
Reflecting on the first 100 days of Gov. Ahmed Aliyu’s administration, Danchadi, acknowledged the remarkable development witnessed in the state.
Earlier, the NUJ vhairman reaffirmed the council’s commitment to maintaining neutrality and upholding professional ethics in carrying out their constitutional duties.
Abdullahi highlighted the tradition of extending courtesy visits to new Information Commissioners, emphasising the importance of this gesture in building rapport.
He congratulated Danchadi on his appointment and expressed the council’s best wishes for his successful tenure.

In a related development, the NUJ council leaders extended their visitation to the Managing Director of the Sokoto Media Corporation, Malam Labaran Dundaye.
During this visit, the chairman assured the management of the media corporation of the union’s continued partnership to promote the development of working journalists in the state.
In his response, Dundaye expressed gratitude to the NUJ team for the visit and assured them of the media corporation’s commitment to maintaining friendly relations with all journalists in the state.
He urged the union’s leadership to explore new ways of supporting the society while upholding the ethical standards and professionalism that were integral to journalism.
