Stop patronising “miracle Centre” for your children, archbishop advises parents
Most Rev. Mathew Audu, the Catholic Archbishop of Jos, has advised parents to desist from patronising ”miracle Centre” in a bid to make their children pass examinations.
Audu gave the advice at the maiden edition of the Education Day of the archdiocese on Tuesday in Jos.
He said that such move had contributed to the rise in cases of examination malpractices in the society, which he said “is inimical to the growth and development of the society”.
The prelate advised parents to pay attention to providing quality education for their children rather than depending on ”human intervention” for the sake of their children passing examinations.
”Let me use this medium advice parents to stop taking their children to miracle centres just for the sake of passing examinations.
”This is what is happening in our society and unfortunately it is contributing to the rise of malpractice which is killing our education system.
”Parents should invest more in providing qualitative education for their children instead of trying to cut corners,” he advised

The archbishop also advised teachers to instill good moral values on their students and pupils in addition to the academic training they are giving them.
He further advised teachers to be good example to their students and provide education that would enable them become useful to themselves and the society.
”These children are entrusted to you to make them better, you must teach them the right values and be good examples to them.
”The knowledge you instill in them should be what will help and not destroy them,” he advised
Audu, who said that the archdiocese would support quality education, called on the students and pupils to take their studies seriously so that they could become useful to themselves and the society in general.
Lady Rose Agur, the Education Secretary of the archdiocese, said that the event was put together to create awareness on the importance of Catholic education to the society.
She explained that Catholic education remained the panacea toward eradicating the current ills and entrenching a more saner society through.
Speaking on the theme ”CatholicEducation: A Seed For Wholistic Formation”, Rev. Fr. Gideon Pwakim, the Rector, St. John Vianney Minor Seminary, Barkin Ladi, said that the theme aimed at sensitising the public that Catholic education “is not just about intellectual development of the child.
”The choice of the theme is to show to the world that Catholic education is not just about the intellectual development of the child, but the moral teachings.
”You can’t have quality education without the moral perspective and so our schools imbibe such values in her students and pupils,”.
