The announcement was made by the Executive Secretary of TETFund during a press briefing held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the fund’s headquarters in Abuja.
According to the Executive Secretary, the selection process was highly competitive and rigorous, spearheaded by the TETFund National Research Fund Screening and Monitoring Committee (NRFS&MC).
The evaluation journey required participating research teams to first submit and defend their concept notes, followed by the submission and assessment of full proposals, and wrapped up with physical oral defenses conducted in Abuja before the final winners were chosen.
The financial value of the approved grants ranges from a minimum of N13,698,897.00 to a maximum of N49,979,826.04 per research project.
The approved studies span several critical sectors aligned with national priorities, including Health and Social Welfare; Agriculture and Food Security; Sustainable Use of Natural Resources and Terrestrial Ecosystems; Science and Engineering; Power and Energy; and the Blue Economy.
Other thematic areas funded under this cycle include Innovation and Technology in National Defence Capabilities; Clean and Affordable Energy; Education and Human Capital; Gender, Equity and Social Inclusion; as well as Conflict, Defence and Security.
A breakdown of the beneficiaries revealed that the Federal University of Technology, Minna, led the performance chart by securing 18 grants. Other top-performing institutions include the Federal University of Technology, Owerri with 11 grants, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria with 10.

The University of Ilorin clinched 8 grants, while Bayero University, Kano, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, each secured 7.
The University of Jos won 6 grants, followed by the University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, and Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, which received 5 grants each.
The 2025 cycle also saw the emergence of newly established institutions among the beneficiaries, such as the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia; the Federal University of Environment & Technology, Koroma Saakpenwa, Ogoni; and the Federal University of Technology & Environmental Sciences, Iyin-Ekiti.
State-owned universities were not left out, with successful bids coming from institutions such as Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Ekiti State University, Kwara State University, Adamawa State University, Rivers State University, and Sokoto State University, among others.
Furthermore, several polytechnics secured funding under the scheme, including the Federal Polytechnics in Ilaro, Bida, Nekede, Monguno, Ile-Oluji, and Bauchi.
Other beneficiary polytechnics include Ramat Polytechnic, Yaba College of Technology, Kaduna Polytechnic, and Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic. Colleges of Education also made the list, with the College of Education, Katsina; Osun State College of Education, Ilesa; and Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-Ma, successfully winning grants.
While congratulating the successful research teams and their institutions for navigating the demanding selection process, the TETFund boss noted that the announcement officially concludes the 2025 NRF grant cycle.
Looking ahead, the Executive Secretary revealed that the fund is set to commence the 2026 NRF Grant Cycle shortly. Scholars and researchers across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions were urged to capitalize on the upcoming opportunity by preparing and submitting their concept notes for the next phase of funding.
