Tinubu Commends NDLEA Over Dismantling of $360m Nigerian-Mexican Drug Syndicate
In a major breakthrough for the global war on narcotics, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following the successful dismantling of a multi-million-dollar Nigerian-Mexican drug syndicate.
The highly sophisticated international network, which operated an illegal drug production facility within Nigeria, was busted following weeks of meticulous intelligence gathering and coordinated raids.
A $360 Million Blow to Organised Crime
The operation, executed in collaboration with international law enforcement partners, resulted in the seizure of illicit drugs and precursor chemicals valued at over $360 million.
Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), Chairman of the NDLEA, officially announced the landmark bust on Wednesday. According to officials, the crackdown led to the arrest of several key players, including foreign nationals, local drug kingpins, and their collaborators.
In a statement released on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu praised the exceptional professionalism and bravery of the NDLEA operatives.
> “This successful operation demonstrates exceptional professionalism, courage, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding society from the devastating effects of narcotics,” President Tinubu said. “I commend the bravery, resilience, and dedication displayed by operatives of the NDLEA throughout this mission.”
West Africa: A Growing Transit Hub
The President highlighted the shifting dynamics of global drug trafficking, noting with concern that West Africa is increasingly being targeted by international drug barons as a strategic transit point.

The region is heavily used to move large shipments of:
* Cocaine
* Synthetic drugs
* Unregulated pharmaceuticals
These illicit substances are primarily bound for lucrative markets in Europe and North America. President Tinubu warned that this trend poses a dual crisis, serving as both a critical security threat to the region and a grave danger to the future of African youth.
A Call for National Vigilance
While celebrating the victory, President Tinubu urged the anti-narcotics agency to avoid complacency, stressing that the battle is far from over. He also challenged the Nigerian public to actively support law enforcement, emphasizing that drug enforcement cannot be left to the NDLEA alone.
“Everyone has a role to play,” Tinubu stated. “We must remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities within our communities to assist security agencies in combating criminal networks.”
The presidency emphasized that this landmark bust serves as a stern warning to domestic and international criminal syndicates operating within Nigeria’s borders, declaring that those who threaten national security will face the full wrath of the law.
