Zulum Warns IDPs Against Joining Boko Haram: “Face the Law’s Wrath”
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State issued a stern warning to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) considering joining Boko Haram in the bush, urging them to be prepared to face legal consequences.
Addressing protesters at the Government Teachers College Mafa, Governor Zulum emphasized the government’s substantial efforts in providing over N40 billion worth of food and non-food items to displaced communities in the state within the last month.
Expressing concern over reports of IDPs contemplating joining Boko Haram due to perceived food shortages, Governor Zulum highlighted the global food crisis exacerbated by conflicts such as the Ukraine-Russian war and economic challenges.
Despite these hurdles, he asserted that Borno State’s administration has excelled in distributing aid, with significant progress in both development and security witnessed over the last five years.
Governor Zulum credited the support of the federal government and security agencies for the remarkable improvement in Borno State’s security situation, stressing the importance of IDPs returning to their agricultural lands.
He emphasized the inability of any administration to fully address the needs of millions of displaced individuals, urging those unwilling to remain in camps to do so at their own risk.
Assuring continued collaboration between the Borno State and federal governments to combat hunger, Governor Zulum warned against any attempts to undermine his administration’s efforts, pledging decisive action against saboteurs.
