Journalists Tasked On Due Diligence, National Interest Reportage

Members of the pen profession in Sokoto State have been admonished to uphold the doctrine of verification and authentification of information at their disposal before going to press.

Addressing leadership of the Correspondent’s Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Sokoto State chapter led by it’s chairman, Ankeli Emmanuel, the  Director of the Department of State Security, (DSS), Mr Saidu Mohammed said synergy with the media is sacrosanct in maintaining national stability. 

According to him, the media is a critical stakeholder in the business of not only disseminating information but also ensuring peace and stability through their reportage. 

He however appealed that members of the pen profession should always adhere to their tenets of responsive and developmental journalism by ensuring that all information meant for public consumptions are verified from authentic sources to avoid sending panic and unconfirmed casualty figures. 

While stressing that both the media and security agencies are working for the overall good of the country, the State DSS Director reassured of continued collaboration with the media. 

Speaking earlier in his opening remarks, Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel of NUJ, Sokoto State chapter, Ankeli Emmanuel said their visit was to amongst other things cement the existing cordial relationship with the Command and to also further entrench avenues for more collaboration for the overall good of the state and nation.

Ankeli, who maintained that the media, being the Fourth Estate of the Realm is an indispensable ally in the quest of having a vibrant and developed nation, added that, the country’s reputation nationally and internationally should matter to every journalists in Nigeria hence the need to deploy patriotism in the discharge of their constitutional roles of being watch dogs. 

Executives of the Correspondents’ Chapel on the courtesy visit include, vice chairman, Adamu Suleiman of the Nation’s Newspaper, the Secretary, Musa Ubandawaki of the Vanguard Newspaper, as well as Assistant Secretary, Olakunle Maruf of the Tribune Newspaper as well as the Treasurer, Umar Danladi Ado, of the Triumph Newspaper and the Auditor, Shafa’atu Suleiman of the Sun Newspaper.
