Adamawa Govt. inoculates pregnant women against neonatal tetanus
The Adamawa Government says it has concluded arrangements to conduct a five-day vaccination exercise to protect mothers against neonatal tetanus in Numan Local Government Area of the state.
Dr Suleiman Bashir, Executive Chairman, Adamawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ADSPHCD), stated this at a news conference in Yola on Tuesday.
He said the exercise billed to commence on Sept. 4, would target four per cent of women of reproductive age group, adding that expectant mothers would recieve two doses of the vaccine.
He said the agency had received 27,030 doses of the neonatal tetanus vaccines from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
He attributed the high burden of the disease to poor hygiene, lack of maternal immunisation and poor surveillance mechanisms, adding that immunisation exercise would be expanded to the remaining 20 LGAs across the state.
According to him, the agency will also conduct immunisation against yellow fever, measles and meningitis as part of efforts to promote healthy living.

“We urge the people, especially women and children to avail themselves for the vaccination scheduled to begin by October,” he said.
He said the state had achieved 64 per cent COVID-19 vaccination coverage, and urged those yet to recieve their second jab to do so.
The Chairman commended the state government, development organisations, religious and community leaders for their support towards the successful conduct of routine immunisation exercises in the state.
The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the agency has deployed 900 voluntary Community Health Influences, Promoters and Service Programme (CHIPS), to enhance awareness creation on health issues at the grassroots.
