Canaan Queens reach African Club semi-finals
Nigeria’s sole representatives at the 2025 ITTF African Club Championships, the Canaan Queens of Calabar, have battled into the semi-finals of the women’s event in Tunis, Tunisia.
A statement from the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) on Sunday confirmed that eight teams from Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ethiopia, and Madagascar are competing in the women’s event.
Egypt’s Zamalek are aiming to defend their 2024 title.
In the men’s category, nine teams from Egypt, Algeria, Ethiopia, Tunisia, Madagascar, DR Congo, and Côte d’Ivoire are competing. Egypt’s ENPPI are the defending men’s champions.
The Nigerian team, led by Fatimo Bello, Janet Effiom, Cecilia Otu-Akpan, and Hope Udoaka, has already beaten Tunisian and Madagascan opponents in Group 1.
However, in their final group match, the Nigerian ladies lost 3-0 to defending champions Zamalek of Egypt, finishing second and securing a place in the semi-finals.

The Calabar Queens will face Egypt’s Petrojet in the first semi-final of the women’s event on Monday, 24 February, at the El-Menzah Sports Hall in Tunis.
Competition Manager, Ghazi Ben Hsen, praised the strong turnout, noting that Madagascar, Côte d’Ivoire, and DR Congo are participating in the Club Championships for the first time.
He added that the tournament serves as good preparation for the Africa Cup, which begins on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
