FUBK matriculates 2,230 new students for 2020/2021 academic session
The Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, has matriculated 2,230 newly admitted students to study various courses for the 2020/2021 academic session in the university.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bello Shehu, made this known at the 7th matriculation ceremony of the students in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
He said,” It is with great humility and pleasure that I stand before this important gathering to welcome you all to the Federal University, Birnin Kebbi, on behalf of council, management, senate, staff and students of our dear university.
“We thank God for making it possible to be here to perform the 7th matriculation of the newly admitted students for the 2020/2021 academic session.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this session we received over 12, 000 request for admission but our university has successfully only admitted 2,230 who are being inducted today.”
Shehu, while congratulating the students, urged them to prepare to cross many hurdles before earning degree they were being matriculated.

“These hurdles include, hard work, strict adherence to university rules and regulations, high moral standards and respect for constituted authority, among others.
“You should recall that before the matriculation exercise, orientation programme was organized for you in order to make you conversant with the university environment, its rules and regulations as well as familiarizing you with other important organs of the university to ease your stay,” he said.
Shehu also revealed that the management of the university was resolved to alleviate the dearth of staff offices and lecture rooms.
According to him, many ongoing projects, such as Faculty of Education and College of Health Sciences, administrative blocks and many others are on various levels of completion.
“It is our hope that in the next few weeks the administrative seat of the university will relocate to the senate complex which is about to be handed over to the university.
“This relocation will pave way for more staff offices for the teeming work force of the university,” the VC said.
Earlier, the Dean Students Affairs in the university, Prof. Ibrahim Magawata, called on the students to bide by the rules and regulations related to self- discipline and control, dress code and movement with opposite sex, among others.
He also advised them to be law abiding and be good ambassadors of their respective homes.
“Similarly, students should be aware that people are increasingly falling victims to criminal activities in our societies largely due to lackadaisical attitude of the citizenry, especially in Nigeria.
“I also implore on all of you to be security conscious. It is not enough to pay people to provide your security; you also have a role to play.
“Being security conscious will help you to avoid situations that can expose you to danger,” Magawata urged.
The dean thanked the university management for its continued support to the division in all matters relating to students’ welfare.
