NISD Holds 3-Day Capacity Building For GBV Service Providers In Sokoto

The Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (Trimming) Project of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources through New Initiative  For Social Development (NISD) had flagged off a 3-Day training and capacity building for Gender Based Violence Service providers in Sokoto.

Flagging off the 3 Day, training at the Dankeni Hotels, Sokoto, NISD Team Lead, Dr Princess, Olufemi Kayode said, a case worker of GBV is simply to guide and not an instructor. 

The 3 Day training has, “”GBV Service Providers In Sokoto State and for the Establishment of Identified Referral Pathways Along The Triming Project Scheme”” as  it’s theme. 

NISD Team Lead, Olufemi  further appealed,  that their expectations should be managed as a cade worker cannot find solutions to all of these challlenge.

Dr Olufemi who further noted that the 3 day training  will also avail them the opportunity to ensure establishment of identified Referral Pathways along the Trimming Projects Schemes.

Giving overview of the training, NISD Gender Consultant, Osasu Edobir said understanding the basic concepts of GBV is very critical to ending the menace.

Osasu who insisted that power and privileges constitutes violence map further listed the various types of GBV, there causes as well as consequences. 

Looking at the link between Gender and GBV-Notion of Masculinity, Gender Equality, Equity and Patriarchy as well as Perpetrator of GBV and Survivors, Carol Olanrewaju  appealed to GBV case managers to allow for equity in dealing with humans.

Speaking on Legal Frameworks and Human Rights in Gender Issues-Legislations and Policies (International, National and Local), Barrister Mudasiru Busari of SMB Prime Law Chambers, Sokoto said, our self esteem is the extend to the pursuance of dignity, hence human rights therefore is essentially poised at achieving this human dignity

He further admitted that there is no disputing the fact that Nigeria as a country has adequate laws to address Gender Issues, but the challenge is implementation, as it is one thing to enact a law and another to make it functional. 

“‘We shall state here here that to enact a law is one thing and the utilization of such law to attain the ideals that the laws aim to achieve is another””.
