Yobe stakeholders laud FG’s ASSEP as educational game-changer

Stakeholders in Yobe have lauded the Accelerated Senior Secondary Education Programme (ASSEP) of the Federal Government as a transformational initiative capable of revolutionizing education in the state.

The commendation by the stakeholders in the education sector came during an engagement session with the Project Implementation Team in Damaturu on Friday.

The stakeholders commended ASSEP’s positive impact on teachers, students, and schools.

Mr Benard Antso, a teacher, described ASSEP as a “good initiative by the Federal Government” that would not only improve schools but also empower teachers and students.

Antso highlighted the 1-Million Teacher Training programme as a significant factor in enhancing teacher productivity and understanding.

Mrs Ladi Disa, another teacher, expressed gratitude for ASSEP’s empowerment of teachers to deliver high-quality education.

She emphasised the need for the programme’s continuity and expansion to benefit more teachers.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Abba Idris, praised the federal government for introducing ASSEP and assured that Yobe would maximise its potential to improve the education sector.

He said that ASSEP’s components aligned with the state’s vision for educational transformation, and encouraged teachers to seize the opportunity for personal development and career growth.

The Chairperson of the Project Implementation Team, Hajiya Sa’adatu Shehu, commended the Yobe Government’s commitment to the education sector, and reaffirmed ASSEP’s dedication to improving education in the state.

She noted that the state government’s payment of WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB examination fees for students was a strong indication of its partnership in achieving ASSEP’s goals.

Dr Mariam Masha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Regional Developments Programmes, highlighted ASSEP’s focus and the team’s commitment to ensuring its success and sustainability with support from the North East Development Commission (NEDC).

Masha also commended Yobe teachers for their progress in the ASSEP teacher training programme, and encouraged further participation.

She emphasised that ASSEP goes beyond traditional schooling, focusing on total education and human capital development.

She highlighted the programme’s emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Agriculture (STEMA) as a driver of future development and human empowerment in Nigeria’s North East.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the team had inspected Government Girls Unity College, Government Secondary School, Business and Engineering Skills Training Centre, and the Yobe State Information Technology Development Agency.
