Zamfara peace dialogue with bandits necessary—Council of Chiefs

The Zamfara State Council of Chiefs has said that the recent peace dialogue process with bandits in the state initiated by Gov. Bello Matawalle is necessary considering the incapacity of security agencies to tackle dwindling security challenges facing the state.

The Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad stated this on Tuesday while speaking at the Nigerian Service Chiefs visit to Gusau Government House.

Ahmad said the present’s government of the state had no option than to initiate peace diologue with bandits, saying that
it has yielded positive results in providing solutions in addressing security challenges in the state.

“As a traditional ruler leading
Anka town, one of the mostly affected LGAs in the state by banditry.

“We know what we experienced before the initiative of peace diologue, we know the successes we are recording now.

“We commend the efforts of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, our understanding is the number of security agencies in the state are not enough to tackle the dwindling security challenges in the state”, the Emir said.

“If you compare number of security personnel with the number of the bandits in the state, you will discover that the number of bandits will be higher.

“We are happy with your visit, we hope and pray for you to succeed in the national responsibly given to you.

“I appeal to you to provide more troops in the state with modern equipments to tackle the insecurity bedeviling the state”, he added.

The monarch further said people of thethe are not satisfied with the recent statement by the  National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Manguno of declaring the state as No-fly Zone and ban of mining activities is not fair to the state.

“The statement is suprising, we don’t have airport in the state, and the mining activities in the state has no connection with the banditry.

“The banning of the mining would not help in tackling banditry in fact it will even affect people of the state economically and socially”, he explained.

“Even the miners have been the victims of banditry and other criminal activities.

“The mining companies have been supporting people of the state, they have been assisting victims of banditry and other vulnerable groups in the state.

“As constodians of people, we assured to continue to support security agencies and government with useful information towards complementing government’s efforts in addressing the insecurity in the state “, the  Emir further said.

Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor who led the delegation of the Service Chiefs earlier sort for traditional ruler’s support in intelligence gathering and other useful information on security.
